Toby’s fight touches the hearts of Murphy staff

Murphy has donated £5,000 to help Toby Nye, a four-year-old from Leeds, who is currently fighting a rare form of cancer.

Last Christmas Toby became unwell and his parents took him to the doctors, where they were told that he had a virus. Toby however became so ill he was unable to walk. After taking him to A&E on January 6 this year, on Toby's 4th birthday, the family were given the devastating news that he had stage four neuroblastoma.

Fewer than 100 children in the UK are diagnosed each year with neuroblastoma and most children who have this cancer are younger than five-years-old.

Toby's story has really touched the hearts of Murphy's staff in the Leeds office and charity committee members Angela Bray and Michelle Keenighan requested that the business donate a considerable sum towards the cause. Murphy has agreed to donate £5,000 to Toby's fight which will help take the total well past £70,000.

Michelle said of the donation: "Toby's story has really struck a chord with everybody so I'm really pleased that the business has agreed to support this cause. The money will help to push towards the end goal and all of Toby's family are delighted with the generosity from Murphy, which is great to see."

Toby's parents were told that he would need intense chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as an operation to remove the main tumour on his kidney, which would last at least a year and would make him very ill. Toby was on an NHS trial where he received antibodies, however, the treatment hasn't worked as expected and he now needs extra treatment, which is no longer available on the NHS.

That means the family will have to pay for the antibodies themselves, as well as other treatment that may be needed. The family has set up a Just Giving page to help raise the money for his treatment, which will cost roughly £200,000.
